Child Safeguarding Week 2023

2023 CSW Theme

Preventing child sexual abuse

Child Safeguarding Week 2023 placed a spotlight on preventing child sexual abuse. A heavy issue but one that should not be shied away from if we are to see an end to it. The campaign website had great content to help individuals better understand the issue, protective steps for parents (caregivers and communities too) and prevention measures for organisations.

Kite logo

2023 saw the launch of the official Child Safeguarding Week website. As well as providing its own platform to promote the week, it will also serve as a baseline to measure future campaign success against. The kite logo was adopted as its official symbol. Typically, kites are associated with childhood and to fly against the wind, require support (a frame, it’s shape and string) to do so. For Child Safeguarding Week, the kite represents a child needing a safe, supportive community to thrive.

Children’s Act 2014 – Campaign success!

During Child Safeguarding Week, META sponsored a marketing and advertising campaign promoting Safeguarding Children’s petition to amend the Children’s Act 2014 to better protect New Zealand’s children from abuse. A total of 3,655 petition signatures were gathered! Over 1.6 million New Zealanders were reached through a variety of media channels during Child Safeguarding Week. In its third year, 2023 was the most successful campaign yet! We are looking forward to Child Safeguarding Week 2024 and continuing to increase awareness of child abuse and promote prevention by providing achievable solutions.
